NEW LANGUAGE COMPUTER LAB DECLARED OPEN AT NAVAL & MARITIME ACADEMY,TRINCOMALEE

The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) marked a significant milestone in its educational and training infrastructure with the ceremonial opening of the newly established Language Computer Lab at the Naval & Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee, on 15th September 2025. The newly opened lab includes a generous donation of thirty computers with headphones, computer tables and a smart board from United States, as a gesture of goodwill and partnership. This state-of-the-art facility aims to enhance the language proficiency via digital literacy of naval personnel, supporting the growing need for technologically advanced and linguistically capable professionals in the maritime domain.

The opening ceremony was graced by the Director General Training of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Dammika Wijewardena, alongside a delegation of foreign dignitaries from the United States, the Commandant of NMA, senior officers, and Under Trainees. Their presence underscored the collaborative efforts and shared commitment towards professional development and international engagement in naval education. The new lab is expected to serve as a cornerstone for future language-based training and international programmes. This initiative reflects the continued commitment of SLN in embracing technological advancement in education and ensuring that its future leaders are equipped with the necessary knowledge and digital skills to meet emerging maritime challenges.

During the event, US delegation Lieutenant Colonel Matthew House addressed the gathering, highlighting the potential of the lab to elevate training standards and build stronger communication bridges within multinational maritime operations. The ceremony concluded, reassuring the improvement of advanced technological capabilities of the Under Trainees and reaffirming the dedication of SLN to continuous learning and global interoperability.
